PRSSCO is a multi-racial orchestra that clinched gold with honour medal for last year's SYF Central Judging. The two main students the article introduced were Sharir (malay), playing cello and Ye Chan (korean) from the percussion.
As quoted: Sharir said it didn't bother him much for not being a Chinese as his friends all speak English to him. Though the conductress only uses Chinese to conduct practices, he has friends who always do the translation for him. Sometimes the instructor uses Chinese that is so deep meaning that even the Chinese students don't understand. He said everyone set the target way before and worked hard towards their goal. Few days before the competition, they practised 3 times per week, from 2.30pm to 9pm. He even brought home his cello and practise it everyday, even if the practice ended late at 9pm.
Ye Chan personally thinks that traditional Chinese music and Korean music are similar. When he practised at home, his youger brother couldn't take the noise and hid his drum-sticks. However, he still continued to practise with chopsticks.
Quoting from Ms Cheng, she always told her students to immerse themselves into the music and as well as the process of performing instead of the prize. One minute on stage, but takes 10 years of practices. Only with the best effort put in comes with good results.
